3. Pensacola [Sandy Key]

Pensacola

Underground Overview: This spot is at the Sandy Key Condominiums, just west of Johnson's Beach. A local old-timer said there are pilings from an old pier that could contribute to the sandbar. There's a decent outside peak, and a midbreak that's surfable all year. To find it, turn left off State Road 292 and take a right on Sandy Key Drive. Park along the road.

Type of wave: Sand Bar - Rights & Lefts
Best Tide: Low going High
Best Size: Overhead
Best Swell Direction: E, SE
Best Wind Direction: N, NE
Prime Time: Fall, Winter, Spring

Naples Pier

Underground Overview: Naples Pier is the most consistent and the most surfed of all the area breaks. Normally, a crowd is only 15 little kids and a handful of Old School guys, but you can get 40 to 50 people in the water of all ages and skills. The north side tends to bowl off the pier, while the south side tends to be a longer, but mushier, wave; however, on large cold fronts, the north side's blown out, but the south side's got the bowl. Bring money for meter parking.

Type of wave: Sand Bar- Rights & Lefts
Best Tide: Low to Mid
Best Size: Anywhere from knee high to overhead
Best Swell Direction: N
Best Wind Direction: NW for south side. SW for north side
